Off-Highway vehicles often have inherently complex transmission systems when compared with road cars due to the very large range of operating conditions encountered with respect to ground speeds and tractive loads.
As well as offering direct ‘traction’ opportunities, integrating HDSRM to deliver a hybrid transmission system will deliver higher peak efficiencies over a broader range of speed and torque. By delivering this improved performance in a smaller package HDSRM also offers the possibility of onboard electrical power to drive a new generation of electrical ancillaries.
Delivering a magnet free Off-Highway motor solution offers market leading sustainability and cost but requires no compromise in performance. Our system is simpler to integrate requiring no additional cooling and utilising off the shelf power electronics to offer a ‘plug and play’ solution. Our motors are also ‘truly off’ when not powered - requiring no additional safety systems to deal with generated currents while rotating under no load. Our patented manufacturing process also allows HDSRM to use aluminium windings in place of copper, meaning that the windings can be up to 70% cheaper, 50% lighter and that the whole motor can easily be recycled.
Collaboration is at the heart of the development of HDSRM, driving and focusing its design and accelerating its route to market. The development process has seen the concept handed from partnership to partnership coordinated by the AEM team throughout. The current collaborative product development programme which AEM is leading brings together world class experts in agricultural vehicle and electrical system design as well as UK supply chain partners and internationally recognised powertrain academics to deliver a proof of concept vehicle showing the potential which electrification can deliver to the agricultural sector.
Our first motor is now available to the market ‘off the shelf’ as HDSRM300 and is already creating interest in the Off-Highway Vehicle Sector and beyond, with the current design being evaluated for applications in six different sectors across 4 continents.
