We’re leading the charge for sustainable electric motor technology to achieve net zero without costing the earth.

How it started

The pioneering work of Newcastle University's Centre for Advanced Electrical Drives developed new electric motor technologies that have helped a global automotive manufacturer build its first electric vehicle and a leading aerospace corporation complete the world's longest self-powered flight.

Leading the Centre was Professor James Widmer, who saw an opportunity for a company to develop and manufacture an alternative to traditional and unsustainable electric motors. Advanced Electric Machines (AEM) was founded in March 2017 by James and Dr Andy Steven, and by 2019 we had secured more than £25 million of investment to continue developing and expanding these technologies with a range of partners and customers.

Most sustainable

Our goal is to offer the most sustainable technology on the market that keeps rare earths and copper in the ground without compromising on performance.

Highest performing

The right choice should never mean compromising on performance. We deliver sustainable electric motors that enhance performance, range and efficiency more than any other motor, electric or otherwise.

Scalable

Sustainability moves along the supply chain. We focus on developing processes that use existing assets and manufacturing expertise and infrastructure process to lower costs and reduce footprint.

Lowest cost

With a strong focus on using existing manufacturing systems and sustainable materials, our technology can take advantage of economies of scale more quickly - to keep driving costs down.

Multi-sector

Our vision is to see sustainable electric motor technology used in every vehicle from agriculture and industrial to marine and aerospace.
